Meliah Rage

Meliah Rage is a seminal fixture of the East Coast metal scene, specifically the Boston 'power-thrash' movement of the late 1980s. Formed by guitarist Anthony Nichols in 1987, the band quickly distinguished itself from the burgeoning Bay Area thrash scene by incorporating traditional heavy metal melodies and classical influences into a thrash framework.

Their sound identity is characterized by mid-tempo 'crunch,' dual-guitar harmonies reminiscent of Iron Maiden, and a vocal style that leans toward the grit of Metal Church rather than the speed-obsessed delivery of their contemporaries. Despite a major label start with Epic Records, the band's career was marked by lineup shifts, including a notable stint with future Godsmack frontman Sully Erna on drums during their unreleased 1992 sessions. Critically, they are viewed as an 'underrated' bridge between the NWOBHM and the more aggressive American thrash movements. Their later work, particularly in the 2000s, saw them experimenting with darker textures and more varied tempos, maintaining a loyal cult following among crate-diggers and traditional metal purists.
