Intro

Matt Lange creates music that feels like a high-resolution photograph of a thunderstorm. It is impeccably clean and technically masterful, yet it carries a heavy, brooding emotional weight that most dance music avoids. His sound is defined by a surgical approach to audio editing, where every glitch, click, and synth swell is placed with obsessive intent. It is the sound of a classically trained mind working within the constraints of a dark, industrial machine.

What truly sets him apart is his background in metal and choral music, which informs his sense of harmony and tension. Unlike the bright, anthemic builds of his early progressive house peers, Lange’s work often feels like it is coiling inward. He uses modular synthesis and complex isorhythms to create patterns that feel organic yet alien, blending the warmth of analog gear with the cold, sharp edges of modern digital processing.

Start with the album Ephemera for a perfect introduction to his transition from melodic house to darker techno territories. It showcases his ability to weave haunting vocals into dense, rhythmic soundscapes. For those who prefer a more aggressive, club-focused experience, his later work on his own Isorhythm label or Mau5trap offers a masterclass in modern techno sound design.

Matt Lange is an American DJ and producer based in Los Angeles. He is best known for co-producing "Goodbye" with DJ Glenn Morrison, His use of modular synthesis and isorhythms in his musical productions have brought him notice. Lange produced progressive house and deep house early in his career, before moving into techno production from 2015 onwards. Lange founded his own label, Isorhythm, in 2011 as a platform to release his own music. He released his debut studio album, Ephemera, in 2015 through Mau5trap, which was later followed up with Isolated in 2020.
