Formed in Atlanta in 2000, Mastodon is an American band known for blending progressive, sludge, and heavy metal. The group gained early recognition with their 2002 debut, Remission, and later earned critical acclaim for the Moby-Dick-inspired concept album Leviathan. Throughout their career, the band has produced eight studio albums and received a Grammy nomination for the track Colony of Birchmen. Troy Sanders remains a core member of the long-standing ensemble.
