Polished Italian indie-pop with a literary heart. Vulnerable, sharp-witted songs that feel like reading a stranger's most honest diary entries.
Levante creates a sound that is quintessentially Italian yet modern, bridging the gap between the classic 'cantautore' tradition and contemporary indie-pop. Her music is characterized by a warm, organic core, often built around piano or acoustic guitar, which then expands into lush, radio-ready arrangements. There is a tactile quality to her sound, like the grain of a well-loved notebook or the heat of a Mediterranean afternoon.
What sets her apart is her vocal delivery and lyrical depth. She possesses a voice that can transition from a breathy, intimate whisper to a powerful, defiant belt in a single phrase. Her background as a novelist is evident in her songwriting; she avoids pop cliches in favor of hyper-descriptive, emotionally complex narratives that explore the messiness of identity, grief, and independence. It is music that demands you pay attention to the words as much as the melody.
Start with her breakthrough album 'Abbi cura di te' to hear her at her most melodic and accessible. It captures the perfect balance of her Sicilian roots and her Turin-bred indie sensibilities. For those who want something more experimental and introspective, 'Nel caos di stanze stupefacenti' showcases her ability to weave complex emotional tapestries into catchy, sophisticated pop structures.
