Lamia is a pivotal Argentine darkwave project that evolved from the industrial-techno outfit Nyx. Formed in 2001 by Juan Andrés Celasco, the group transitioned from underground club sounds to a sophisticated fusion of neoclassical and dark electro.
The addition of soprano Claudia Rolando in 2002 defined their early 'Dark Angel' era, which gained significant international traction via Metropolis and Black Rain Records. Following lineup changes in 2005, the inclusion of Cecilia Marchesotti and Daniel Pomba pushed the band further into operatic territory, deepening the 'electro-medieval' identity. Their sound is characterized by the use of electronic percussion and synthesizers to simulate liturgical and orchestral environments. Culturally, they represent a high point in the Latin American gothic scene, having shared stages with genre titans like Clan of Xymox and Lacrimosa.
