La Unión was a cornerstone of the Spanish 'La Movida Madrileña' movement, though they occupied a more sophisticated, art-pop niche than many of their punk or garage-rock peers. Formed in 1982, the band achieved immediate legendary status with their 1984 debut single 'Lobo Hombre en París', produced by Nacho Cano of Mecano.

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, the band evolved from a synth-heavy quartet into a more guitar-driven rock outfit, though they never lost their penchant for atmospheric production and Rafa Sánchez's distinctive croon.
