High-energy indie pop with a heavy 80s new wave heart. Shimmering synths and gritty guitars meet powerhouse vocals for a sound that feels like a cinematic night out.
Kitten sounds like the best parts of a 1980s coming-of-age soundtrack filtered through a modern indie lens. It is music that thrives on contrast: the cold, precise snap of electronic drums against the warm, messy urgency of a rock band. Chloe Chaidez delivers vocals that can pivot from a breathy, intimate whisper to a glass-shattering belt in a single measure, making every track feel like a high-stakes emotional event.
What sets them apart is their refusal to be just another retro-act. While the DNA of New Order or Blondie is clearly visible, Kitten injects a raw, almost punk-like volatility into their arrangements. The production is often lush and layered, filled with shimmering synth pads and chorus-drenched guitars, but there is always a jagged edge or a heavy bassline keeping the sound grounded in the present.
Start with the 'Goodbye Honeymoon Phase' EP to hear their most refined pop sensibilities, or dive into their self-titled debut for a more sprawling, experimental take on their signature neon-soaked sound. It is the perfect choice for anyone who wants the melodic payoff of pop with the grit and unpredictability of alternative rock.
