Kim Nowak

Gritty, all-analog garage rock that captures the unpolished heat of a 1960s basement session. Raw energy for late nights and loud speakers.

Intro

Kim Nowak sounds like a band that just stepped out of a time machine from 1969, but they brought a modern, restless anxiety with them. The sound is defined by its refusal of digital polish; it is thick with analog hiss, overdriven tubes, and the physical thud of drums recorded in a real room. There is a tactile, dusty quality to the music, as if you can feel the heat radiating off the amplifiers.

What makes them truly distinctive is the collision of backgrounds. You have the Waglewski brothers, who redefined Polish hip-hop, applying their rhythmic discipline and vocal phrasing to the language of punk and garage rock. When paired with Michał Sobolewski’s Hendrix-inspired guitar pyrotechnics, the result is a power trio that values the 'mistake' and the 'noise' over the perfect take. It is rock music stripped of its ego and returned to its primal, vibrating roots.

Start with their self-titled debut for a masterclass in raw, minimalist songwriting. If you want something darker and more aggressive, 'Wilk' pushes the boundaries of their sound into more predatory, nocturnal territory. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who thinks modern rock has become too clean.

Kim Nowak is a Polish rock band. It was founded in 2008 by hip-hop artist Bartosz "Fisz" Waglewski, producer Piotr "Emade" Waglewski and Michał Sobolewski. The band name is a Polish spelling variant of the name of American actress Kim Novak. In an interview with Newsweek, Piotr Waglewski said the band's intention was to refer to the 1960s.
