Intro

Kathleen delivers a quintessential slice of early 1990s Francophone pop, characterized by an unshakeable sense of optimism and high-gloss production. Her sound is defined by the intersection of danceable rhythms and a soft, melodic vocal delivery that feels both intimate and expansive. It is the sound of a specific era in Quebec music where synth-pop met the burgeoning influence of global dance trends, resulting in tracks that are as catchy as they are polished.

What makes her distinctive is the specific collaboration with producer Jean-Pierre Isaac, which yielded a sonic signature of crystalline digital textures and propulsive drum programming. Unlike the more rock-oriented artists of her time, Kathleen leaned fully into the 'pop' aesthetic, using her breathy soprano to glide over arrangements that feel light, airy, and perpetually in motion. There is a rhythmic playfulness in her phrasing that suggests a deep comfort with the groove.

Start with the album 'Ça va bien !' to hear her at her commercial and creative peak. The title track is an essential anthem of the period, perfectly capturing the vibrant, neon-hued energy that defined her career. It is the ideal entry point for anyone looking to understand the evolution of French-Canadian pop before the turn of the millennium.

Kathleen Sergerie, known professionally as Kathleen, is a Canadian pop singer from Quebec, who records only under her first name. She released several albums and scored hits on the Canadian charts in the early 1990s with songs such as "Où aller" and "Ça va bien!" Her 1993 album Ça va bien! was written and produced by Jean-Pierre Isaac. As of 2006, she joined with the Ville Émard Blues Band and performed in Montreal. Although she has not released a solo album since 1996, she told the newspaper L'Avantage gaspésien in 2017 that she was beginning work on her fourth album.
