Warm, analog-drenched pop that feels like a lost 1970s studio session. Intricate arrangements and vintage textures for fans of classic songcraft.
Jonathan Rado makes music that sounds like it was discovered in a time capsule buried beneath a legendary Los Angeles recording studio. It is deeply rooted in the golden age of analog production, favoring the hiss of tape and the organic thrum of a real piano over digital perfection. His sound is a kaleidoscopic blend of 1960s baroque pop and 1970s glam-rock, delivered with a modern indie sensibility that keeps it from feeling like a mere museum piece.
What truly distinguishes Rado is his 'analog fetishism' and his ability to construct dense, theatrical arrangements that still feel intimate. He has a producer's ear for the specific rattle of a snare or the way a vocal harmony can melt into a bed of synthesizers. There is a playful, almost mischievous quality to his solo work, often subverting classic pop tropes while simultaneously celebrating them with meticulous detail.
For those looking to dive in, 'Law and Order' is the essential starting point. It captures the frantic, creative energy of his early solo career and showcases his knack for writing melodies that feel instantly familiar yet refreshingly strange. It is the perfect introduction to his world of sun-drenched California psychedelia and sophisticated studio wizardry.
