Jakuzi

Moody Turkish synth-pop that pairs deep, dramatic vocals with vintage drum machines. It is the sound of a lonely night in Istanbul, equal parts danceable and desolate.

Intro

Jakuzi creates a sound that feels like a lost VHS tape from 1980s Istanbul, rediscovered in a modern underground club. Their music is anchored by Kutay Soyocak's commanding baritone, which carries a weight and drama reminiscent of Bryan Ferry or Ian Curtis, but filtered through a distinctly Turkish emotional lens. The synths are warm, warbling, and often carry melodies that nod to the rich history of Turkish pop and arabesque music, creating a unique bridge between Western darkwave and Eastern sentimentality.

What makes them truly distinctive is their ability to make existential dread feel inviting. There is a specific tension in their production; the drum machines provide a steady, robotic heartbeat that contrasts with the raw, human vulnerability of the vocals. It is music for the 'dark disco' - songs that make you want to move your body while your mind is preoccupied with heartbreak or urban isolation. They avoid the polished sheen of modern pop in favor of a grit that feels authentic to their punk roots.

New listeners should start with their debut, 'Fantezi Müzik'. It perfectly encapsulates their blend of lo-fi charm and high-stakes emotional delivery. Tracks like 'Koca Bir Saçmalık' serve as the ultimate gateway, showcasing how they can turn a simple synth hook into a haunting anthem of frustration and desire.

Jakuzi is a Turkish synthpop band, formed in Istanbul in 2015. The band consists of Kutay Soyocak, Can Kalyoncu, Meriç Erseçgen and Ahmetcan Gökçeer. Kutay Soyocak and Taner Yücel formed the project to move away from their previous punk-oriented music projects. The duo rose to prominence in Istanbul's underground music scene after the release of their debut album Fantezi Müzik. Originally released in 2016 through Domuz Records, it was reissued by City Slang on 24 March 2017. The band's sound has been described as synthpop, dark wave and new wave. Jakuzi is influenced by Turkish pop music, as well as genres ranging from krautrock, disco and post-punk.
