Impaled Nazarene

Impaled Nazarene is a cornerstone of the Finnish extreme metal scene, formed in Oulu in 1990. While they emerged alongside the atmospheric and occult black metal wave of the early 90s (Beherit, Archgoat), they quickly distinguished themselves by rejecting the 'slow and atmospheric' trend in favor of 'Nuclear Metal.'

This sound is characterized by a high-speed synthesis of black metal, grindcore, and d-beat punk. Their debut, 'Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz,' is a landmark of chaotic extremity, featuring 72 tracks of noise, metal, and madness. Over three decades, the band has evolved into a more structured but no less aggressive unit, incorporating significant thrash and hardcore influences. Their cultural position is one of the 'eternal outsider,' often courting controversy through provocative lyrics and a confrontational live presence. They served as a bridge between the underground tape-trading scene and the more professionalized extreme metal of the 2000s, influencing a generation of blackened thrash and crust punk bands.
