Down I Go

High-velocity mathcore colliding with a full brass section. Chaotic, conceptual, and surprisingly melodic songs about dinosaurs, robots, and ancient mythology.

Intro

Down I Go sounds like a car crash in a conservatory. One moment you are being pummeled by jagged, dissonant guitar riffs and frantic screaming, and the next, a triumphant horn section emerges from the debris to lead a melodic, almost theatrical parade. It is music that feels physically heavy but intellectually nimble, constantly pivoting between abrasive noise and sophisticated arrangement.

What truly sets them apart is their commitment to the 'core' of the concept. Whether they are screaming about the extinction of the dinosaurs or the hubris of Greek gods, the music mirrors the subject matter with terrifying accuracy. They use brass and strings not as window dressing, but as structural components of their chaos, creating a sound often dubbed 'disastercore' that is as humorous as it is harrowing.

Start with the album 'Gods' for the most polished realization of their vision. It perfectly captures their ability to marry technical hardcore with epic, cinematic storytelling. If you want something more raw and conceptual, 'This Is Dinocore' offers a shorter, sharper shock to the system that established their reputation for brilliant, thematic absurdity.

Down I Go are an experimental hardcore band from London. Their music combines complex song structure and rhythmic patterns with both melodic and screaming vocals, as well as frequently marrying these features with orchestral instrumentation including brass and string sections. All their major releases have been written around specific individual themes, in release order: dinosaurs, environmental and man-made disasters, fictional robots, historical tyrants, Greek mythology and Icelandic folklore. Notable fans include musicians Tom Vek, Tim Elsenburg of Sweet Billy Pilgrim, who said their music exemplified "...the imagination gone mad, in a really, really good way", and Jamie Lenman, who described them as "...the best band ever to come out of this tiny island"
