Deluxe was the primary musical vehicle for Galician musician Xoel López between 2001 and 2008. Based in A Coruña, the project began as a heavily Britpop-influenced endeavor, with early albums like 'Not What You Had Thought' featuring English lyrics and a sound reminiscent of the Madchester scene and 90s UK indie.
As the project evolved, López shifted toward his native Spanish, a move that coincided with a massive increase in his cultural footprint within the Spanish 'Indie' scene. This transition is best documented on the seminal album 'Los jóvenes mueren antes de tiempo'. Critically, Deluxe is viewed as a bridge between the derivative English-language Spanish indie of the 90s and the more authentic, lyrically-driven pop-rock of the 2000s. López eventually retired the name Deluxe in 2008 to pursue a more folk-influenced, organic sound under his own name, but the Deluxe catalog remains a cornerstone of Spanish alternative music, cited for its melodic craftsmanship and emotional resonance.
