Darkside is the collaborative project of electronic producer Nicolas Jaar, multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington, and more recently, drummer Tlacael Esparza. Formed in 2011 after Harrington toured in Jaar's live band, the duo released their debut EP followed by the critically acclaimed 'Psychic' in 2013.
Their sound is a sophisticated hybridization of minimal techno, krautrock, and psychedelic blues. J. Cale. After a multi-year hiatus, they returned with 'Spiral' and later 'Nothing', expanding into a trio to incorporate more complex, live-percussion elements. They occupy a unique cultural position as a bridge between the indie-rock festival circuit and the underground electronic scene. Critically, they are praised for their ability to make cold, digital environments feel emotionally resonant and physically tactile. Their influence can be seen in the rise of 'organic electronic' acts that prioritize live instrumentation over purely programmed sequences.
