Soulful Polish blues-rock defined by gritty harmonica, soaring guitar solos, and a heavy, melancholic spirit. Perfect for late nights and long, reflective drives.
Dżem sounds like the intersection of American Southern rock and the weary soul of late-communist Poland. It is music built on the warmth of analog tubes and the organic friction of a band that has spent decades on the road. The guitars are fluid and expressive, often spiraling into long, emotive solos that feel like a conversation between the players. Underpinning it all is a deep, rhythmic groove that feels both heavy and effortless.
What truly distinguishes the band is the legendary presence of Ryszard Riedel, whose raspy, vulnerable delivery turned blues standards into spiritual manifestos. Even in their later iterations, the band maintains a specific 'outsider' ethos, blending the technical proficiency of hard rock with the raw, unvarnished emotional honesty of the blues. It is music that feels lived-in, slightly frayed at the edges, and deeply authentic.
Start with the album 'Detox' to hear the band at their creative and emotional peak. It captures the perfect balance of their psychedelic leanings and their core blues-rock identity. From there, 'Cegła' offers the essential hits that became the soundtrack for a generation of Polish youth seeking freedom and identity.
Dżem is a blues rock band formed in Tychy, Poland. Ryszard Riedel, one of the most famous vocalists from Poland, worked with the band. Their songs include: "Czerwony jak cegła" (Red as a Brick), "Whisky", "Wehikuł czasu" (Time Machine), "Sen o Victorii" (Dream about Victoria), "Harley mój" (My Harley), "Mała aleja róż" (Little Rose Avenue), "Naiwne pytania" (Sappy questions), "List do M." (Letter to M.) and many more. They were the back-up band for Eric Clapton's concert in Gdynia on 14 August 2008.
