Catto

High-drama Brazilian rock with a theatrical, androgynous edge. Lush arrangements meet a voice that can pivot from a whisper to a roar. For late nights and big feelings.

Intro

Catto’s music feels like a high-stakes performance in a dimly lit cabaret where the stakes are life and death. It is deeply rooted in the traditions of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) but infused with the rebellious spirit of rock and the dramatic flair of tango and bolero. The sound is often lush and expansive, featuring sweeping arrangements that frame one of the most distinctive voices in modern music: a flexible, androgynous instrument capable of incredible emotional range.

What truly sets Catto apart is the intersection of queer identity and theatricality. There is a sense of 'performance' that never feels fake; instead, it uses the artifice of the stage to reach a deeper, more vulnerable truth. Whether reinterpreting the classics of Gal Costa or exploring original rock-influenced paths, the music maintains a tension between elegance and grit, moving from velvety crooning to raw, powerful belting within a single phrase.

Start with 'Belezas São Coisas Acesas por Dentro' to hear a masterclass in reinterpretation, then move to 'Caminhos Selvagens' to experience the artist's more aggressive, rock-forward original compositions. It is music for people who want their songs to feel like a grand cinematic event, even when they are just listening on headphones in the dark.
