High-flying Australian power metal with soaring vocals and twin-guitar precision. Triumphant, melodic, and built for the front row of a summer festival.
Formed in Melbourne in 2001, Black Majesty emerged as Australia's premier export in the melodic power metal scene. Originally operating under the name Kymera, the band's core identity was forged by guitarist Steve Janevski and vocalist John Cavaliere.
Their sound is deeply indebted to the German power metal tradition, specifically the polished, melodic approach of bands like Helloween and Iron Savior. This connection was solidified early on when drummer Pavel Konvalinka recorded tracks with Piet Sielck in Germany. Over two decades, the band has maintained a remarkably consistent aesthetic, characterized by high-register operatic vocals, dual-guitar harmonies, and a lyrical focus on cosmic and mythological themes. Despite frequent lineup changes in the bass department, the band's songwriting has remained focused on anthemic structures and high-fidelity production. They occupy a specific niche as a bridge between the traditional NWOBHM influence and the more symphonic elements of modern power metal, earning them a dedicated international following particularly in Europe and Japan.
