Scrappy, hook-filled indie pop that finds magic in the mundane. Like a box of old baseball cards and fuzzed-out guitars, it is earnest, playful, and deeply human.
BOAT sounds like the best possible version of a basement practice session. It is music that prioritizes the 'song' above all else, wrapping infectious melodies in a layer of fuzzy, unpretentious guitar work. There is a specific Pacific Northwest warmth here, a sound that feels lived-in and slightly frayed at the edges, reminiscent of the era when indie rock was more about community and storytelling than polish.
What makes them truly distinctive is their lyrical obsession with the specific and the mundane. D. Crane writes about baseball, dinosaurs, and the minor frustrations of daily life with a sincerity that avoids irony. The music feels like a conversation with a friend who has a lot of great stories and a slightly out-of-tune acoustic guitar, but enough energy to make you want to jump around the room.
Start with 'Dress Like Your Idols' to hear them at their most cohesive. It perfectly captures their ability to balance power-pop energy with the kind of intimate, DIY charm that makes you feel like you could start a band in your garage tomorrow morning.
