Black Swan

Black Swan is an American hard rock supergroup formed in 2019, primarily featuring vocalist Robin McAuley (MSG), guitarist Reb Beach (Winger, Whitesnake), bassist Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, Dokken), and drummer Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr. Big).

The project was initiated by Serafino Perugino of Frontiers Records, aiming to pair McAuley's legendary vocal range with Beach's distinctive shred-influenced guitar work. Their sound is characterized by a fusion of 1980s melodic metal sensibilities and 21st-century production standards, emphasizing high-fidelity clarity and dense instrumental layering. Critically, the band is noted for avoiding the 'project' feel common in supergroups, instead displaying a cohesive unit identity across albums like 'Shake the World' and 'Generation Mind'. While the name 'Black Swan' is shared by several entities, including a notable ambient drone project and a Finnish melodic black metal band, this iteration represents the peak of contemporary melodic hard rock craftsmanship. Their influence web connects back to the Sunset Strip era while looking forward to the resurgence of technical heavy rock.
