Polished, cinematic jazz that bridges the gap between grand orchestral scales and intimate electronic pulses. Sophisticated piano for deep focus or late-night drives.
Bill Laurance creates music that feels like the architectural blueprint of a modern metropolis. It is sleek, intentional, and remarkably expansive, often blending the organic resonance of a grand piano with the precise, shimmering textures of contemporary synthesis. While his roots in Snarky Puppy provide a foundation of rhythmic complexity, his solo work leans into a more cinematic and atmospheric territory that feels both grand and deeply personal.
What sets Laurance apart is his ability to make complex jazz fusion feel accessible without losing its intellectual edge. He uses the studio as an instrument, layering strings and electronic pulses to create a 'wall of sound' that remains crystalline and clear. There is a sense of forward motion in his compositions, a restless curiosity that pushes acoustic instruments into digital spaces, resulting in a sound that is as much about the space between the notes as the notes themselves.
Start with 'Flint' to hear his most iconic blend of jazz-funk and orchestral ambition. For something more introspective and experimental, 'Cables' showcases his ability to command a room with just a piano and a few well-placed electronic textures. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments that require both clarity and inspiration.
Bill Laurance (born 2 April 1981) is an English composer, producer, and multi-instrumental musician. Laurance is a member of jazz fusion and funk band Snarky Puppy, as well as founder and CEO of London-based record label Flint Music.
