Astrid is a Scottish indie-pop band formed in 1997, originating from the Isle of Lewis but finding their creative footing in Glasgow. The core of the band consists of songwriters Willie Campbell and Charlie Clark, whose childhood bond translates into a seamless vocal and melodic partnership.
Their sound is characterized by a blend of 1960s-influenced jangle pop, power pop, and the melodic sensibilities of the 'Postcard Records' lineage. Their debut album, 'Strange Weather Lately' (1999), was produced by Edwyn Collins and remains a high-water mark for the late-90s Scottish indie scene, earning them a reputation as 'radio darlings' and a support slot for Belle & Sebastian. After releasing three albums and several EPs, the band dissolved in 2004, with members pursuing various projects (including Campbell's The Open Day Declaration). They reunited in the late 2010s, releasing 'Fall Stand Dance' in 2019, which maintained their signature focus on tight harmonies and guitar-driven hooks. Critically, they are regarded as one of the most underrated purveyors of the 'Glasgow Sound,' bridging the gap between the C86 era and modern indie pop.
