Anestesia

Anestesia is a seminal crossover thrash band from Zarautz, Basque Country, formed in 1988. Led by the prolific Mikel Kazalis, the band became a cornerstone of the 'Euskal Rock Radikala' (Basque Radical Rock) movement's heavier evolution.

Their sound is characterized by a blend of thrash metal's technicality and hardcore punk's d-beat intensity, all delivered with lyrics exclusively in the Basque language. This linguistic choice, combined with their ultra-political themes, cemented their status as a cult icon within the region and the broader European underground. After a hiatus in the early 2000s while Kazalis focused on Negu Gorriak and Kuraia, the band returned with 'Terapia' in 2006, proving their relevance hadn't faded. Critically, they are praised for their rhythmic tightness and the sheer physical impact of their live performances. They occupy a unique space where the aggression of Slayer meets the social consciousness of Discharge, filtered through a distinctively Basque cultural lens.
