Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper, born Vincent Furnier, is the primary architect of shock rock, a subgenre that fuses hard rock with theatrical horror. Emerging from the Phoenix garage rock scene, the original Alice Cooper band moved to Detroit, where they refined a gritty, aggressive sound under producer Bob Ezrin.

This partnership yielded a string of classic albums like 'Love It to Death' and 'Killer', which combined Beatlesque melodicism with macabre themes. Cooper's career is defined by his transition from a band leader to a solo icon, legally adopting the band's name and leaning further into high-concept storytelling with 1975's 'Welcome to My Nightmare'. Culturally, he bridged the gap between the psychedelic 60s and the heavy metal 80s, influencing everything from punk to industrial rock. Despite his 'Godfather of Shock Rock' persona, Cooper is critically respected for his sharp songwriting and ability to adapt to changing trends, including a massive commercial comeback in the late 80s with the glam-metal infused 'Trash'. He remains a cornerstone of rock history, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
