Aaron Gillespie

High-stakes emotional rock stripped down to its wooden bones. Powerful, raspy vocals meet rhythmic acoustic arrangements for moments of deep personal reflection.

Intro

Aaron Gillespie's solo work feels like the quiet conversation after a loud storm. While his history in metalcore provides a foundation of intensity, his solo catalog trades the distortion for rich acoustic textures and soaring, melodic hooks. It is music that occupies the space between a private confession and a communal anthem, characterized by a rhythmic drive that betrays his identity as a world-class drummer.

What makes this sound distinctive is the 'clean' vocal power that defined an entire era of alternative rock, now applied to a more organic, singer-songwriter framework. You can hear the physical effort in his voice; it is not just singing, it is a release of tension. The arrangements are often built around percussive guitar playing and wide, open-room reverb that gives the songs a sense of physical scale.

Start with 'Anthem Song' if you want to hear the bridge between his rock roots and his spiritual leanings. It captures that specific 2010s blend of polished production and raw, heartfelt performance that works equally well for focused reflection or a long, solitary commute.

Aaron Roderick Gillespie (born July 18, 1983) is an American musician, best known for being the drummer and clean vocalist for the rock band Underoath, of which he is the only original member. He is also the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the alternative rock band The Almost. He has also worked with the band The Dangerous Summer. Gillespie also maintains his own solo project and released his debut full-length album, Anthem Song, in 2011. From 2013 to 2016, he was the touring drummer for Paramore. In 2023, Jake Richardson of Loudwire included him in his list of the "10 Best Clean Singers in Metalcore".
