13 is a seminal sludge and doom metal outfit formed in New York City in 1992. Emerging from the ashes of Thunderpussy, the band was founded by guitarist Liz Buckingham and drummer Ellen Mieczkowski, later recruiting vocalist Alicia Morgan.
Their sound is characterized by extreme low-end frequencies, agonizingly slow tempos, and a raw, lo-fi production aesthetic that emphasizes physical impact over technical polish. They are deeply connected to the 'NOLA' sludge scene through personal ties, notably with Eyehategod, yet they maintained a distinct East Coast grit. Buckingham's later tenure in Electric Wizard highlights the band's influence on the broader stoner-doom trajectory.
