Released in 2005, Virus is the tenth studio album by Hypocrisy and marks a significant lineup shift with the introduction of drummer Horgh (Immortal) and guitarist Andreas Holma. Recorded at the legendary Abyss Studio, the album is a masterclass in Peter Tägtgren's production style, blending high-gain guitar clarity with a massive, compressed drum sound. Sonically, it is a departure from the more melodic and 'spacey' themes of previous records like Catch 22 or The Arrival, opting instead for a more grounded, aggressive approach that touches on thrash and industrial influences. The lyrical themes shift from alien abduction to human psychosis, surveillance, and societal decay.
