The Last Command

Released in 1985, The Last Command serves as the pivotal second chapter for W.A.S.P., marking their transition into a platinum-selling powerhouse. Produced by Spencer Proffer, who had previously helmed Quiet Riot's Metal Health, the album features a significantly more 'radio-ready' sheen than their self-titled debut. Despite the cleaner production, the songwriting remains aggressive. This record saw the introduction of drummer Steve Riley and solidified the Holmes/Piper guitar duo, resulting in a tighter, more cohesive sonic attack. It is historically significant for containing 'Blind in Texas' and 'Wild Child,' tracks that became staples of the MTV era and helped the album reach No. 49 on the Billboard 200. While the band was still a primary target of the PMRC, The Last Command shifted the focus slightly from pure shock value toward high-caliber heavy metal songwriting, ensuring their longevity beyond the initial controversy.
