Sugar Blind

Sugar Blind is the third EP from British singer-songwriter Marika Hackman, released in late 2013. Produced by Charlie Andrew (known for his work with Alt-J), the record solidified Hackman's early reputation for 'brooding pastoral folk.' While her later work would pivot toward grunge-inflected indie rock, this EP represents the peak of her acoustic-focused, atmospheric period. The tracklist includes three original compositions and a notable cover of Joanna Newsom's '81,' which Hackman reimagines with her signature skeletal gloom. Critics noted the EP's ability to sound both ancient and contemporary, praising the sophisticated vocal layering and the 'murky' sonic palette that avoided the cliches of the indie-folk boom.
