Seasons of Your Day

Released in 2013, Seasons of Your Day marked the end of a 17-year hiatus for Mazzy Star. Despite the long gap since 1996's Among My Swan, the album maintains a remarkable sonic continuity, largely because many of its tracks were recorded sporadically between 1997 and 2012. The core duo of Hope Sandoval and David Roback (in one of his final major statements before his passing) leaned further into acoustic arrangements and Americana influences than on their previous records. Notable for featuring a guest appearance by the legendary British folk guitarist Bert Jansch on 'Spoon', the album serves as a bridge between the band's psychedelic roots and a more mature, folk-oriented sound. Critics noted that the album felt less like a 'comeback' and more like a continuation of a conversation that had never really stopped, praising its timeless quality and refusal to adapt to contemporary production trends. It was released on their own label, Rhymes of an Hour, signifying their complete independence from the major label system that defined their 90s peak.
