Revelations

Released in July 1982, Revelations is the third studio album by Killing Joke and represents a pivotal moment in their discography. Produced by the legendary Conny Plank at his studio in Cologne, the album features a more refined, spacious sound compared to the raw aggression of their self-titled debut and 'What's THIS For...!'. Despite the cleaner production, the album is steeped in a heavy atmosphere of dread, influenced by the band's increasing interest in mysticism and the tense political climate of the Cold War. The recording process was famously fraught; shortly after completion, frontman Jaz Coleman fled to Iceland, fearing a literal apocalypse, leading the band to perform on Top of the Pops without him. Musically, Geordie Walker's chorused guitar work and Paul Ferguson's tribal drumming reach a peak of synergy here, creating a sound that would deeply influence the industrial rock and alternative metal genres. It stands as a dark masterpiece of the post-punk era.
