Resurrect

Released in late 2011, Resurrect is the debut EP from the Texas-based quartet Polyphia. At this stage in their career, the band consisted of Timothy Henson and Scott LePage on guitars, Brandon Burkhalter on drums, and Lane Duskin on bass. Unlike their later, more famous work which incorporates hip-hop and R&B production, Resurrect is firmly rooted in the progressive metal and djent scenes of the early 2010s. The EP is characterized by its heavy use of high-gain distortion, complex syncopation, and virtuosic lead guitar interplay. It received positive attention within the underground metal community for its technical proficiency, though it predates the massive mainstream crossover success the band would later achieve. The production is typical of the era's 'bedroom' metal revolution: extremely clean, highly compressed, and focused on the surgical precision of the performances. It remains a crucial document of the band's evolution from a metalcore-adjacent technical act to a genre-defying instrumental powerhouse.
