Released in 2004, Recoil represents Nonpoint's major-label transition to Lava Records. Following the success of 'Development,' the band spent a full year refining a sound that blended their signature groove-heavy metal with more expansive melodic structures. The album is notable for its rhythmic complexity, often cited as a prime example of the 'South Florida sound' - a style characterized by syncopated, percussive riffs and rap-influenced vocal deliveries that prioritize groove over traditional thrash or death metal tempos. The production by Jason Bieler provides a thick, compressed wall of sound that was characteristic of the era's top-tier alternative metal. The album's most famous moment is its cover of Phil Collins' 'In the Air Tonight,' which became a staple of rock radio and film soundtracks (notably 'Miami Vice').
