Queensrÿche

Released independently in 1982 under the band's own 206 Records before being picked up by EMI, this self-titled EP is the foundational document of Queensrÿche. Recorded when the band was still known as The Mob, it features Geoff Tate as a guest vocalist who eventually became the permanent frontman due to the record's underground success. Sonically, the EP is heavily indebted to the NWOBHM movement, specifically the dual-guitar attack of Iron Maiden and the vocal range of Rob Halford. However, tracks like 'The Lady Wore Black' hinted at the atmospheric, progressive tendencies that would later define 'Operation: Mindcrime'. It received a perfect review in Kerrang! upon release, which catalyzed their signing to EMI. This EP remains a cornerstone of the American Power Metal movement and is essential for understanding the evolution of progressive metal.
