Released in 2000 on Ferret Music, this self-titled debut is the foundational blueprint for the melodic metalcore explosion of the 2000s. While the band would achieve massive commercial success with later albums like Alive or Just Breathing, this record captures them at their most primal. It was recorded before the band had even secured a permanent vocalist, with Jesse Leach joining after the music was largely written. Sonically, it bridges the gap between the metallic hardcore of the 90s (Overcast, Aftershock) and the Gothenburg melodic death metal sound (At the Gates, In Flames).
