Helloween

Released in March 1985, the self-titled Helloween EP serves as the definitive starting point for the 'German Big Four' of metal. While the band is globally recognized as the architects of melodic power metal, this debut is firmly rooted in the speed metal tradition. Recorded for Noise Records, the EP features the original four-piece lineup with Kai Hansen handling both lead guitar and vocal duties. The sonic profile is characterized by high-velocity riffs, frequent twin-guitar harmonies, and a raw, unpolished production style typical of early 80s European metal. Unlike the 'Keeper' era which followed, this release leans into darker themes and a more aggressive, less melodic vocal approach.
