Desolation of Eden

Released in early 2010, Desolation of Eden served as the debut full-length statement from Salt Lake City's Chelsea Grin, following the underground success of their self-titled EP. The album is historically significant for cementing the 'triple guitar' lineup, which allowed the band to maintain a lead melody or atmospheric layer while two other guitars provided a massive, rhythmic foundation. This technical choice became a hallmark of their early sound. The tracklist includes re-recordings of 'Cheyne Stokes' and 'Recreant,' the latter of which became one of the most enduring anthems in the deathcore subgenre. Critically, the album was viewed as a polarizing but essential contribution to the 'lunatic fringe' of metal, noted for its technical proficiency despite its reliance on genre tropes.
