Bloc Party

Released in May 2004, the Bloc Party EP (often referred to as the 'Self-Titled EP' or 'Little Thoughts EP' depending on the territory) served as the world's introduction to one of the most influential bands of the UK's post-punk revival. While their debut LP 'Silent Alarm' would later refine this sound into a polished masterpiece, this EP captures the band in a raw, transitional state. The tracks here highlight the unique chemistry between Russell Lissack’s delay-heavy lead guitar and Kele Okereke’s rhythmic rhythm playing. The inclusion of the 'Phones Disco Edit' of 'Banquet' is historically significant, as it bridged the gap between the indie-rock circuit and the burgeoning electro-clash and dance scenes of London. Critically, it was hailed as a breath of fresh air for its technical proficiency and avoidance of the 'lad-rock' tropes prevalent at the time, instead opting for a more cerebral, angular approach to songwriting.
