Ashes of the Wake

Released in 2004, Ashes of the Wake is widely considered the definitive statement of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Following the underground success of As the Palaces Burn, this major-label debut for Epic Records saw the band refining their 'pure American metal' sound into something more precise and politically overt. The album serves as a scathing critique of the Iraq War and the military-industrial complex, most notably on the title track which features guest solos from Alex Skolnick and Chris Poland alongside field recordings of veteran testimony.
