Released in 2006, Sacrament represents the commercial and critical peak of Lamb of God's mid-career evolution. Following the success of Ashes of the Wake, this album saw the band leaning further into high-fidelity production, courtesy of Machine, which emphasized their 'groove metal' identity. It debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200, a significant feat for an extreme metal act at the time. The album is notable for its more complex song structures and the inclusion of more melodic, albeit still dark, guitar textures on tracks like 'Descending' and 'Blacken the Cursed Sun.'
