Intimate, story-driven indie pop that feels like a handwritten letter from an old friend. Vulnerable queer narratives wrapped in warm, unpolished Pacific Northwest DIY.
Listening to Your Heart Breaks feels like being invited into a living room where the coffee is hot and the conversation is deeply personal. The music occupies that sweet, slightly ragged space between anti-folk and indie pop, where the emotional honesty of the lyrics is far more important than studio perfection. It is the sound of the Pacific Northwest DIY scene, characterized by a certain grey-skies melancholy and a fierce commitment to community and storytelling.
What makes Clyde Petersen's project distinctive is the way it functions as a living archive of queer experience and collaborative friendship. The songs often feel like vignettes or short stories, populated by specific names, places, and memories that ground the music in a tangible reality. The production is frequently lo-fi and warm, utilizing acoustic instruments and gentle arrangements that allow the narrative weight of the lyrics to take center stage without being overbearing.
For those new to the band, Drone Butch Blues is an essential entry point, offering a profound exploration of trans identity and queer history through a lens of experimental folk and indie rock. It showcases the project's ability to be both deeply specific and universally resonant. If you appreciate music that prioritizes heart, history, and the beauty of the unpolished, this is a catalog worth living in.
