Intro

Young & Rollins deliver a sound that is both technically dazzling and immensely approachable. It is the sound of two master guitarists in a constant, playful dialogue, where the rhythmic intensity of flamenco meets the harmonic curiosity of jazz. The music feels sun-drenched and expensive, like a high-end resort in the Mediterranean or a rooftop lounge in a bustling Latin capital.

What sets them apart is the specific intersection of their backgrounds. You can hear Lawson Rollins' classical precision in the clarity of the notes, while Daniel Young's jazz training provides a restlessness and improvisational flair that keeps the arrangements from feeling static. They don't just play flamenco; they use it as a foundation to build intricate structures of salsa, bossa nova, and blues.

Start with 'Salsa Flamenca' to hear the duo at their most vibrant and foundational. It captures the essence of their 'Nuevo Flamenco' tag while showcasing the rhythmic complexity that made them a staple of the early 2000s world music boom.

Young & Rollins is a guitar duo, consisting of Daniel Young and Lawson Rollins, that performs and records original music which draws upon an eclectic mixture of salsa music, Latin jazz, blues, samba, bossa nova, flamenco, and classical styles. Their music can be broadly described as a melding of Nuevo Flamenco, World Music, and Latin Music genres. Daniel Young and Lawson Rollins began collaborating after meeting in Washington, D.C. in 1998. They came from different musical backgrounds - Rollins started out as a classically trained guitarist before moving into Latin American and flamenco guitar styles, while Young holds a degree in jazz from The New School in New York City.
