YOU

YOU is a German electronic ensemble formed in 1977, consisting of Albin Meskes, Ulrich Weber, Udo Hanten, and Lhan Gopal. Emerging during the tail end of the Krautrock movement and the height of the Berlin School, they distinguished themselves by integrating live, jazz-influenced percussion into the sequencer-heavy aesthetic popularized by Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze.

Their debut, 'Electric Day' (1979), is a seminal example of this fusion, blending Moog-driven sequences with fluid, acoustic drumming and atmospheric guitar work. Throughout the early 1980s, albums like 'Scanner' and 'Time Code' saw them experimenting with digital textures and more structured compositions while maintaining their signature analog warmth. Critically, they are viewed as a vital link between the kosmische musik of the 70s and the ambient techno movements of the 90s. Their work is highly prized by collectors of European electronic music for its high production values and unique rhythmic complexity, often cited as a more 'human' alternative to the purely machine-driven electronics of their contemporaries.
