Sun-drenched British guitar pop with lush 60s harmonies and a gentle, pastoral heart. Perfect for long afternoons and nostalgic walks.
Yeti sounds like the softer, more melodic side of the mid-2000s British indie scene, trading the jagged edges of their contemporaries for a warm, pastoral glow. Their music is built on a foundation of jangly acoustic guitars and rich, multi-part vocal harmonies that feel directly inherited from The Beatles and The La's. It is rock music that isn't afraid to be pretty, often leaning into a folk-rock sensibility that feels distinctly English.
What sets them apart is the sophisticated sense of melody and the interplay between the instruments. While many bands of the era were chasing a raw, garage-rock sound, Yeti embraced a more polished, almost chamber-pop approach to their arrangements. The bass lines are melodic and prominent, providing a sturdy counterpoint to the shimmering guitars and the earnest, clear-eyed vocal delivery that defines their best tracks.
Start with 'Never Lose Your Sense of Wonder' to hear their knack for an infectious, sunshine-filled hook. From there, dive into 'One Eye on the Banquet' to experience the full breadth of their songwriting, which ranges from upbeat indie-pop to more contemplative, folk-inflected ballads that reward a focused listen.
Yeti was founded in 2004 by John Hassall of English rock band The Libertines. Hassall met Brendan Kersey, Andrew Deian and Mark Underwood (formerly Harmony Williams) through mutual friends, and the line-up was completed when drummer Graham Blacow responded to a classified advertisement. The band was based in North London.
