Aggressive metalcore meets polished R&B hooks and glitchy synths. High-energy anthems for processing betrayal and finding your second wind.
Woe, Is Me represents the peak of the 'scenecore' era, where the aggression of metalcore was surgically fused with the glossy production of pop and R&B. Their sound is defined by a sharp contrast between guttural, rhythmic screams and soaring, soulful clean vocals that wouldn't sound out of place on a Top 40 radio station. The guitars are heavy and percussive, often locking in with digital synths to create massive, floor-shaking breakdowns.
What truly sets them apart is the R&B phrasing of their clean singing, which adds a layer of swagger and emotional vulnerability rarely seen in their contemporaries. The production is unapologetically digital, featuring crisp drums, stuttering electronic effects, and a wall-of-sound approach that makes every chorus feel like a stadium event. It is music designed for maximum impact, balancing technical aggression with infectious melody.
Start with their debut album, Numbers. It is the definitive blueprint for their sound and a cornerstone of the 2010s post-hardcore movement. Tracks like '[&] Delinquents' showcase the perfect interplay between their dual vocalists and the electronic elements that made them a Myspace-era phenomenon.
Woe, Is Me is an American metalcore band from Atlanta formed in 2009. The band is signed to SBG Records. They were formerly signed to Rise Records and its subsidiary, Velocity Records. Their debut album, Numbers, was released on August 31, 2010, and charted at number 16 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Kerrang! categorized them as a "Myspace band" due to their popularity on Myspace early in their career. Due to ongoing disputes between members, the band underwent several lineup changes during its original four-year run, with guitarist Kevin Hanson being the only founding member who remained. Woe, Is Me disbanded in September 2013, but announced a reunion in July 2022 with the "Vengeance" lineup. They played their first show in over 9 years in Dallas, Texas on October 29, 2022.
