Winterhorde

Winterhorde is an Israeli melodic progressive black metal outfit formed in 1999, originally under the name Autumn Palace. Their sound identity is defined by a 'Northern' aesthetic that belies their Middle Eastern origins, heavily influenced by the second-wave Scandinavian scene but evolved through a progressive lens.

Over two decades, they have transitioned from misty, melancholic black metal into a highly technical, symphonic force. Their work is characterized by high production values, conceptual storytelling (often involving maritime or winter themes), and a sophisticated use of keyboards and clean vocals alongside traditional extreme metal elements. Critically, they are positioned as a bridge between the melodic death metal accessibility of bands like Insomnium and the avant-garde complexity of Ne Obliviscaris. Their 2010 release 'Underwatermoon' and 2016's 'Maestro' are considered high-water marks for the genre in the Mediterranean region, establishing them as a significant export in the global extreme metal underground.
