Wetdog

Angular, skeletal post-punk with a deadpan delivery. Brittle guitars and driving basslines create a restless, unpolished energy for rainy city nights.

Intro

Wetdog sounds like the best band you ever stumbled upon in a damp London basement. Their music is built on a skeletal framework of interlocking parts: a bassline that refuses to quit, drums that hit with a primitive, unadorned thud, and guitars that slash through the air like a dull blade. It is post-punk stripped of all its stadium pretensions, returning to the raw, nervous energy of the late 70s DIY scene while remaining firmly rooted in the modern urban experience.

What sets them apart is the vocal delivery of Rivka Gillieron, which oscillates between a detached, spoken-word cool and a vulnerable, melodic sigh. There is a deliberate lack of polish here that feels honest rather than amateurish. The songs often feel like they are being held together by sheer willpower, creating a tension that makes the occasional pop hook feel like a hard-won victory. It is music that values the space between the notes as much as the notes themselves.

Start with 'Frauhaus!' to hear the band at their most cohesive and sharp. The track 'Lower Leg' is the perfect entry point, showcasing their ability to turn a repetitive, almost hypnotic rhythm into something deeply compelling. It is the ideal soundtrack for those moments when you feel a bit out of step with the world around you and need music that shares your restless, slightly cynical perspective.

Wetdog is a London-based all-female post-punk trio, formed in the spring of 2007. The band released their first album, "Enterprise Reversal", in 2008 on Angular Records. It was followed by their second album, "Frauhaus", which was released on both Angular and on the Captured Tracks label. The first single from "Frauhaus" was "Lower Leg". The band released its third album, "Divine Times", on 4 May 2015 on Upset the Rhythm.
