Intro

Warlocks represent the raw, unpolished heart of Norwegian hip-hop. Their sound is built on the foundation of the 1990s boom bap era, characterized by dusty drum breaks, sharp turntable scratches, and a relentless energy that mirrors their roots in the b-boy and graffiti scenes. It is music that feels like concrete and cold air, yet carries a warmth from the analog soul of their samplers.

What truly sets them apart is the vocal chemistry between the twin brothers, Tech Rock and Karma, backed by Hawk's production. Their delivery is aggressive and precise, often trading lines with a psychic intuition that only siblings share. They don't just rap; they attack the beat with a physical presence that demands attention, making even their most melodic tracks feel grounded in street culture.

Start with 'Afterlife' or 'Top Notch' to hear the group at their peak. These records capture the transition from pure underground grit to a more polished, yet still dangerous, sonic identity. It is essential listening for anyone wanting to understand how American hip-hop foundations were translated into a distinctively Nordic urban experience.

Warlocks are a Norwegian hip hop trio formed in 1992. The group has also been heavily involved in the graffiti and b-boy scene in Oslo. The trio consists of producer Hawk and the rappers Tech Rock (André Eriksen) and Karma (Kevin Eriksen), who are twins. Warlocks released their debut album, Lyrical Marksmen, on a local independent label (dBut Records) in 1995, and the street buzz resulted in a contract with Norway's leading rap label, Tee Productions.
