Submerged, late-night R&B filtered through a hazy indie lens. Murky synths and breathy vocals that feel like a slow-motion walk through a rain-slicked city.
Vondelpark creates a sound that is best described as 'underwater soul.' It is music that feels like it has been recorded through a thick layer of velvet or heard from the bottom of a swimming pool. There is a deep, resonant warmth to their production, but it is always tempered by a sense of urban isolation and late-night melancholy. The melodies are rooted in classic R&B and soft rock, yet they are processed until they become ghostly, shimmering echoes of themselves.
What truly sets them apart is their 'quietstorm' approach to indie-electronic music. While their contemporaries in the chillwave era focused on sun-drenched nostalgia, Vondelpark looked toward the blue hour. They use space and silence as instruments, allowing breathy, half-mumbled vocals to drift over slow-motion basslines and glitchy, organic percussion. It is a sophisticated, moody blend that feels both intimate and distant.
Start with the album 'Seabed' for the definitive experience of their sound. It captures the transition from their more experimental EP roots into a cohesive, atmospheric world. It is the perfect companion for those moments when the world feels too loud and you need music that matches the slow, heavy pace of a quiet night alone.
