Intro

Voltio brings a raw, unpolished energy to the reggaetón genre that feels deeply rooted in the streets of Puerto Rico. His sound is defined by a distinctive raspy vocal delivery and a rhythmic foundation that often leans into the syncopated swing of salsa and traditional Latin percussion, setting him apart from the more polished pop-leaning acts of the era.

What makes Voltio truly stand out is his lyrical grit. Whether he is delivering sharp-tongued diss tracks or narrative-driven stories of urban life, there is an authenticity to his performance that feels earned. His music captures the transition of reggaetón from underground movement to global phenomenon, maintaining the aggressive edge of its roots while embracing high-fidelity production.

Start with the album Voltage AC to hear him at his commercial and creative peak. Tracks like Bumper and Julito Maraña showcase his ability to balance club-ready hooks with the storytelling prowess of a seasoned rapper.

Julio Voltio (also known simply as Voltio; born as Julio Irving Ramos Filomeno on June 11, 1977) is a Puerto Rican former rapper. An early pioneer of reggaetón—a modern genre of Latin music originating primarily in Panamá and Puerto Rico, with sonic roots in Jamaican dancehall and American hip hop—Voltio officially retired from the music industry in 2014, having converted to Evangelicalism. The name "Voltio"—meaning "(electrical) volt"—came about after an incident, during his time as an electrician, in which he inadvertently placed his hand in the wrong location and received an electric shock. At that point, he began being referred to by friends as "Bombillo" ("light bulb") or "Corto-Circuito" ("short-circuit"), until eventually calling him "Voltio". The artists formerly known as Voltio now identifies as a born-again Christian, once stating in an interview: "…Yes, really[,] I accepted Christ as my savior[;] I really do [accept Christ,] because sometimes you have a void in the hearts [your heart] and therefore need to search for Christ."
